Tattoo Removal Options - Some Ways to Remove Your Tattoos

Removing a tattoo is often regarded as a very painful process. Although the process may have been very painful in the past, technology of today offers some tattoo removal options. Currently, there are two options to remove tattoos that are rapidly becoming more and more popular - laser technology and light-based technology.

Both surgeries used light energy to destroy the tattoo ink. The ink in the tattoo will absorb the energy of light, breaking it up. Once the ink starts to break, one could easily pass through and out of your body through filtering. In most cases this is very safe, since the ink is divided into micro size to where it can pass easily through the body without complications.

The process is actually similar to the surgery that removes the hair. The surgeon or doctor who performs the surgery will hold a magic wand to the skin being treated. While doing so, the light pulses are aimed at the tattoo, breaking up the ink. The wand is normally held right up against the tattoo, as this makes the pulses of light much more effective.

Normally, the feeling that you experience is best described as an elastic or rubber band against your skin stirring constantly. If the tattoo is large, the pain could certainly be a little more intense. The area where the tattoo is also important, as sensitive areas may cause some pain and discomfort. If the area you have the tattoo does not have much muscle or tissue, you most likely want to be numbed as much as possible before starting the procedure.

Both laser and light based treatments are somewhat similar. With both tattoo removal procedures, the doctor doing the procedure always apply a cold gel to the tattoo area that is trying to cool the skin and conduct light energy. This cooling gel helps to draw the light, and at the same time, protect your skin. The gel feels cold to the touch, although it will help your skin when the light pulses start to break apart the ink.

If you've been thinking about having a tattoo removed you should consider both light and laser based procedures. Note that both are expensive, and both impose risks. Depending on how big your tattoo and what the procedure involves, you may have to spend a night or two in the hospital. Although both procedures offer ways to make your tattoo removed, you have to think long and hard before making a final decision.
